How Keno Tickets and Draws Work

Keno has a grid of numbers from 1 to 80. A player picks a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 10 numbers from that grid — this selection is called "spots". A bet is placed based on how many spots you have chosen.

Once the bet is confirmed, the draw begins. A random number generator (RNG) or a physical ball machine draws 20 numbers one by one from a total of 80. These 20 numbers are the result of the draw. Your prize depends on how many of your chosen spots match the 20 drawn numbers.

Each round is completely independent. The result of a previous draw has no effect on the next draw. This feature of Keno is similar to Bingo, but Keno gives you much more freedom in choosing your numbers.

Understanding Winning Numbers and Patterns

Which numbers to pick — strategy or coincidence?

Every draw in Keno is completely random, so the idea of a number being "hot" or "cold" has no mathematical basis. However, keeping a few things in mind can make your playing experience more structured.

Importance of spot count: Picking fewer spots (such as 1–3) gives a higher chance of matching, but the prize multiplier is lower. Picking more spots (such as 8–10) makes a full match harder, but the prize is much larger. A mid-range (4–6 spots) generally creates a balance between risk and reward.

Sequential vs. scattered numbers: Picking numbers in sequence like 1, 2, 3, 4 or picking them spread out — the probability of being drawn is the same in both cases. However, many players prefer to choose personal dates or meaningful numbers, which adds a different kind of enjoyment to the game.

Alongside Keno, the melbet agents Casino section also offers various other number-based and table games.

How Prizes Are Determined

Prize determination in Keno is based on two things — how many spots you chose and how many of them were drawn. The payout multiplier is set based on the combination of these two numbers.

Take a 5-spot ticket as an example. If 3 of the 5 numbers are drawn, the prize is at one level. If 4 are drawn, it is a bit more, and if all 5 match, you get the top prize. Each different "spot count" has its own payout table.

Selection (Spots) Matches Prize Level
1 Spot 1/1 Top Prize (1 Spot)
3 Spots 2/3 Mid Prize
3 Spots 3/3 Top Prize (3 Spots)
5 Spots 3/5 Minimum Prize Level
5 Spots 4/5 High Prize
5 Spots 5/5 Top Prize (5 Spots)
10 Spots 5/10 Entry Level Prize
10 Spots 8/10 Large Prize
10 Spots 10/10 Top Prize (10 Spots)

* Specific payout multipliers may vary depending on the variant and platform rules.

Simple rules for winning prizes

The more spots that match, the higher the prize multiplier. But tickets with fewer spots also require fewer matches to qualify — meaning it is comparatively easier to win with a smaller ticket. Larger tickets offer the chance of a bigger win, but you need to match more numbers in total.

Smart Budget Planning

melbet agents Keno budget management and bet planning

Keno is a fast-paced game — each round finishes in just a few minutes. This makes budget management important.

Set a limit for each session

Before you start playing, decide how much you will spend in that session. When you reach that limit, stop — whether you have won or not.

More rounds with smaller bets

Placing smaller bets across more rounds gives you more playing time and a fuller experience compared to placing a few large bets.

Start with mid-range spots

For new players, a 4–6 spot ticket is a good starting point. It offers a reasonable balance between the chance of winning and the prize multiplier.

Take a break after a good win

After a good win, pause for a while. Continuing to play without stopping can cause your winnings to go back into bets.

Popular Keno Variants

While the core rules of Keno are the same everywhere, several different versions are available across platforms. Each variant adds some new features or a different pace.

Classic

Classic Keno

A 1–80 number grid, 20 numbers drawn, and the option to pick 1–10 spots. This is the most common version. It is the default variant on most online platforms. The rules are simple and quick to learn.

Speed

Speed Keno

Same as Classic Keno, but each draw finishes much faster — in some versions, a round takes just 30 seconds. It is popular among those who want quick results. However, the faster pace means your budget can run down quickly as well.

Multi-Card

Multi-Card Keno

You can buy multiple tickets or cards for a single draw. Each card can have a different number selection. There is a chance to win on multiple cards in the same draw, but the cost also increases.

Bonus Feature

Bonus Feature Keno

Some modern variants include an extra bonus ball. Under specific conditions, an additional ball is drawn, which can increase the prize multiplier on certain tickets. These variants generally offer a bit more variety.

Live

Live Keno

Numbers are drawn from a ball machine in front of a live host and can be watched in real time via video stream. This gives a more realistic feel compared to RNG-based Keno — much like a live Bingo session or a lottery hall.

Monkey King, another number and luck-based game similar to Keno, is also available at melbet agents — Monkey King.

Keno FAQ

In Classic Keno, you can pick a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 10 numbers from a range of 1 to 80. How many numbers you pick depends on your preference and strategy. This limit may vary slightly in different variants.

In each draw, 20 numbers are drawn from a total of 80. These 20 numbers make up the result. Your prize is determined by how many of your chosen numbers fall within those 20.

Picking fewer spots (such as 1–3) gives a higher chance of matching, but the prize amount is lower. Picking more spots (such as 8–10) makes a full match harder, but the prize multiplier is much higher. Choosing a mid-range number of spots (4–6) generally gives a balanced experience.

Keno and the lottery are both number-based and use random draws, but there are differences. A lottery typically has large weekly or monthly draws with many participants. In Keno, each round finishes in just a few minutes, you have more freedom in choosing your numbers, and you decide how many spots to pick.

Yes. The melbet agents Android and iOS apps are available through official channels. You can also play Keno directly from a mobile browser. Tapping numbers on screen to make your selection is straightforward, so playing Keno on mobile is quite comfortable.

In Slots, you win by spinning symbols, and the game uses a reel-based payline or ways system — the player essentially spins and watches the result. In Keno, the player chooses their own numbers and then watches the draw — there is an active role in the number selection. Both games produce random results, but the experience is different.
